Following its successful staging between 2011 and 2025, the Salzkammergut Marathon – now in its 15th year – offers a unique challenge over the classic 42.2-km distance as part of the Wolfgangseelauf programme.
Experience an unforgettable run at the 2026 Salzkammergut Marathon: one of Austria’s most beautiful marathon routes leads from Bad Ischl to Lake Wolfgangsee, where you’ll join the original route of the 27-km classic. The route continues to St. Wolfgang and over the Falkenstein, climbing 220 metres in altitude before descending again. Scenically stunning sections offer everything a runner’s heart desires. Passing through St. Gilgen, Gschwendt and Strobl, the marathon leads to the finish line in St. Wolfgang.

Hotel description: Opened in April 2025, the hotel is, as its name suggests, dedicated to the famous Empress Elisabeth. The highlight of the hotel is located in the hotel lobby, where the original horse-drawn carriage from the Sissi films is housed.
Location: Located near the Bad Ischl Congress and Theatre Centre, it combines a quiet location with proximity to the town centre.
Facilities: The Grande Liberté restaurant offers creative cuisine that reinterprets regional classics. There is also a stylish bar and a wellness area with an indoor pool, a fitness room and a sauna. Free WiFi.
