Hiking on the Dachstein round hiking trail does not always mean having to deal with many meters of altitude and hiking around alpine area. In this package you hike the north side of the Dachstein Mountains in 2 easy stages from Bad Mitterndorf to Hallstatt. Your companion on the way is water, the basis of all life. Starting with the impressive natural phenomenon of the Strumern karst springs in Pichl-Kainisch, you will then pass the idyllic forest moor lake Ödensee and always hike close to the Kainisch and Koppentraun towards Obertraun, where you will reach the well-known Hallstättersee

General information
The hikes do not have any technical difficulties and are also suitable for beginners, provided they are in good physical condition. Your hiking equipment should include: sturdy shoes, backpack, sun and rain protection, functional clothing.

Routing:

DAY 1: Individual arrival at Bad Mitterndorf and handing over of the travel documents.

Overnight stay in Bad Mitterndorf.

DAY 2: Bad Mitterndorf – Bad Aussee

            approx. 19 km, 5 hrs, altitude difference á 182 m / â 323 m

You start today's stage from Bad Mitterndorf via the district of Obersdorf, past the Kumitzberg to Knoppen. We continue to Pichl-Kainisch, where you can observe the impressive natural phenomenon of the Strumern when the snow melts in spring. Caste springs gush out of the forest floor here and after a while they combine to form a real river. You continue to the idyllic natural lake, the Ödensee, where you get your well-deserved snack in the Kohlröserlhütte. Along the Kainischtraun you come to Bad Aussee.

DAY 3: Bad Aussee – Hallstatt – Bad Goisern

            approx. 17 km, approx. 4 hrs, altitude difference á 192 m / â 351 m

From Bad Aussee you hike along the Koppentraun again and through the wild and romantic Koppental to Obertraun. The tour continues along the Obertrauner Höhenweg and along the eastern shore hiking trail of Lake Hallstatt to Hallstatt train station. On the way, a visit to the Koppenbrüller Cave is highly recommended. During the following ferry ride across the lake, enjoy the impressive view of this place steeped in history and then go on a journey of discovery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. After that you take the bus to Bad Goisern.

DAY 4: On a train ride including luggage from Bad Goisern to Bad Mitterndorf you can review the impressions of your hike.

The parking place does not always situate next to the accommodation but on a public parking place. (Possible costs have to be paid on spot)

Accommodation:

Twin-bedded rooms in Austrian resorts are normally one large base with two mattresses/duvets. These are also known as 'Austrian Twins' and are regarded as two beds. Separate twin beds are rare and cannot be guaranteed as available. Location of the accommodation are mainly close to the trails.
