The Hallstatt - Dachstein/Salzkammergut Region has been a listed UNESCO World Heritage Region since December 1997. And you can visit this region as this hiking tour combines crystal-clear lakes, impressive mountains and charming villages on well signed hiking paths. The region includes 76 lakes – with crystal-clear water, in the enchanting mountain world with deep green mountain pastures or the bizarre rocks of the up to 3 000 meters high Dachstein massif.

General information:

Daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult and are suitable for beginners. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

    3 x in a ***inn/hotel and 1 x in a 4*hotel in Bad Ischl
  • 1 x welcome video with explanations and information that you need for the tour
  • 2 x Ferry Abersee-Gschwendt - St. Wolfgang
  • 1 x boat ride St. Gilgen – Abersee-Gschwendt
  • 1 x Entrance to the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl
  • 1 x Hiking map Salzkammergut and further information material (1x per room)
  • 1 x Salzkammergut Souvenir
  • 3 x luggage transfer - max. 2 pcs./person and max. 25 kg/piece of luggage

Routing:

1st day:   Individual arrival at Wolfgangsee lake.

You will receive your travel documents at your accommodation.

Enjoy your arrival day at the Lake Wolfgangsee, take a bath there or do a boat ride. Possibility to visit the “Dorf der Tiere” - a petting zoo not only for children.

Overnight stay in Abersee / St. Gilgen

          

2nd day:  St. Wolfgang - St. Gilgen ~10 km, 2-3 h, altitude difference á 352 m / â 352 m

From Abersee with the ferry to the other side of the lake, to St. Wolfgang. When you get out of the boat turn left and walk towards Ried. At the end of the road, the hiking trail “Falkenstein” to the Gasthof “Fuerberg” starts. From there along the lake shore to the   Mozart-village St. Gilgen. A ferry takes you from St. Gilgen back to Gschwendt (Abersee). (If you prefer walking –a nice trail along the lake shore leads from St. Gilgen to Abersee).

3rd day:   Lake Schwarzensee - Strobl ~17 km, 4-5 h, altitude difference á 417 m / â 417 m

Again, you start you day with a ferry ride to St. Wolfgang. From St. Wolfgang a hiking trail leads to the mountain lake Schwarzensee. At the Gasthof of “Zur Lore” you can enjoy fresh trout from the lake. Take the hiking path down to Strobl and walk around the “Bürglstein” hill until you reach the lake promenade in Strobl.

Overnight stay in Strobl.

 

4th day:   Strobl – Bad Ischl ~13 km, 3 h, altitude difference á 63 m / â 120 m

From Strobl you walk next to the idyllic creek “Ischler Ache” to Pfandl. Along a path through the woods, you reach the emperor city Bad Ischl. Visit the Emperors villa (voucher included), Café Zauner or the former Hotel Austria (now the museum of the city Bad Ischl), where once upon a time the engagement of Emperor Franz Josef and Elisabeth “Sissi” of Bavaria took place.

Overnight stay in a 4* hotel in Bad Ischl.

 

5th day: Individual departure or additional nights

If you want to spend your departure day also in Bad Ischl there is a lot more to do: Ascent with the cable car up to Mount Katrin and hike along the 7-lakeview-path. Or visit the Salzkammergut Thermal spa. Hike up the Siruskogl and visit the famous restaurant on the top.

Information for arrivals by car:

The parking place does not always situate next to the accommodation but on a public parking place. (Possibly costs have to be paid on spot)

 

Dogs: Dogs are allowed in the accommodations on request, often for a small fee. Extra costs have to be paid on spot. Austrian law requires that dogs have to be kept on leash and wear a muzzle in public transport.
